SKILLED NURSING

Provided by a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse under the supervision of a registered nurse. Some situations that might warrant skilled nursing include, but are not limited to:

  • Skilled professional observation and assessment of the patient’s condition
  • Assuring that the safety and physical comfort of the patient are met as well as the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs
  • Patient education/teaching, self-care strategies
  • Performing nursing procedures for which Skilled Nurses training provide the necessary skills and judgment
  • Performing Catheter Care, blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration, caring for terminally ill
  • IV and fluids administration and antibiotic therapy
  • Assisting with the rehabilitation of patients according to the care plan directed by the physician
  • Observing and recording all pertinent information and reporting to the appropriate physician
  • Teaching patients, family members, and auxiliary nursing personnel proper health maintenance care
